Charo Henríquez has been named deputy Washington editor for strategy and operations, a newly created position at The New York Times.
In the role, Henríquez will oversee bureau processes, culture, and workflow optimization as the Washington team navigates expanded coverage during the second Trump administration. She will refine collaboration methods and ensure the bureau meets digital storytelling demands across multiple platforms.
For the past five years, Henríquez guided the continued transformation of the newsroom as head of Newsroom Development and Support, developing accountability systems, training programs, and strategic initiatives. Elevated to that role in 2020, she was previously senior editor of digital strategy.
Since joining The Times in 2017, Henríquez has overseen editing restructuring rollouts and implementation of the visual-first content management system used by the newsroom and Opinion section.
Prior to the NYT, Henríquez was digital executive editor at People en Español and worked at GFR Media in Puerto Rico, where she started as a business reporter and eventually became innovation editor, leading digital transformation and product efforts in the newsroom.
