Salomé Ramírez has been named assistant director of communications at the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center at the Atlantic Council.
In her new role, the former VOA journalist will lead the center’s communications strategy, overseeing media outreach, digital content, publications, and messaging. She will work with program teams, regional partners, and the council’s communications staff to amplify the center’s work on issues across the Americas, including democracy, migration, energy, and economic development.
“Stepping into this role feels like a natural evolution of my career,” Ramírez tells Media Moves. “I’ve always seen journalism as a tool for change and impact, and after years working in media, I felt called to use those skills in a more strategic way. I’m still telling stories — but now I help shape how Latin American and Caribbean issues are framed and understood on a global scale. My background in journalism allows me to identify what makes information compelling, clear, and newsworthy, and I’m excited to bring that lens to this new chapter.”
Ramírez, who worked at Voice of America since September 2022, was among the hundreds of contractors laid off from VOA in late May.
The Puerto Rican journalist’s past experience includes positions as communications and marketing strategist at Nuestro Barrio: Distrito Cultural de Santurce and news reporter at Metro Puerto Rico.
