Lee makes management changes at Univision news

January 21, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

Isaac Lee, who was appointed Univision News president in December of 2010, has made his first round of management changes in his department, which includes a new hire, a departure and several promotions.

An Univision spokeswoman confirms Sylvia Rosabal, who was VP and Director of News Coverage is no longer with the company. She had been with Univision for 26 years.

Daniel Coronell

Lee has named Daniel Coronell VP of Network News. Daniel was most recently in charge of “Noticias Uno,” a national newscast on Colombia’s Canal Uno. He has also directed national newscasts for RCN TV. He is a columnist for Revista Semana.

Patsy Loris is being promoted to Sr Director of News, managing the day-to-day operations of the network news department. She’ll report to Daniel Coronell. She has been with Univision for 22 years. She was most recently Sr Executive Producer of “Al Punto.”

Marilyn Strauss was promoted to news assignment director. A 24-yr Univision vet, she will also serve as the liaison with news directors at the UTG stations, as well as network bureaus and correspondents. She’ll report to Patsy Loris.

Angel Matos will be Director of News Operations. He was previously Manager of News Operations at Univision Network. Solangelee Molina-Torres will now be Director of Special Projects along with Lourdes Torres. Solangelee will be responsible for “Primer Impacto,” and Lourdes will be in charge of “Aquí y Ahora.”

Angel, Solangelee and Lourdes will all report to Isaac Lee.

Lee made this statement regarding the changes:

“The vital role Univision plays in keeping Hispanics informed and engaged in the American dialogue makes us a critical part of the community we serve. In order to build on our strengths and leverage this position, we are making strategic changes to our news operations. This will allow us to increase our focus on investigative reporting, political coverage in the U.S. and Latin America, leverage new media, drive innovation, and further integrate with Univision Local Media.”
