Telemundo bets big on "Reina"

March 1, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

“La Reina Del Sur,” Telemundo’s most ambitious production to date with locations shot in Spain, Mexico, Morocco, and Colombia debuts tonight at 10 pm.

The network’s new novela is based on the eponymous bestseller by Spanish author and journalist Arturo Perez-Reverte. The story spans 12 years and focuses on a character named Teresa Mendoza, how she becomes a female drug lord, and details the inner workings of the international drug trade.

Telemundo scored a victory in getting Televisa star Kate del Castillo to accept the leading role.
