Contreras leaves Boston

July 14, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

Russell Contreras returns to New Mexico.  Currently an Associated Press multimedia immigration & minority affair reporter in Boston, he has been hired as the AP’s law enforcement reporter in Albuquerque.

“This is a great opportunity to return to a state I know well,” Russ tells me.  “I’m sad to leave Massachusetts, a place I really grew to love, but I’m excited to join a strong crew in a very newsy area.  It’s a wonderful place for good storytelling.”

Russ has been working at the AP’s Boston bureau since 2008.  He previously spent 3 years as a reporter for The Boston Globe, where he was in charge of multimedia projects for regional sections.  Before that, he worked as an education reporter at the Albuquerque Journal.
