Telemundo extends deal with NFL

August 31, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

Telemundo and the National Football League announced they have extended their six-year partnership through the 2013 NFL season. Telemundo will work with NBC Sports to offer season-long, special Spanish-language coverage of the NFL. This partnership establishes Telemundo as the only Spanish-language broadcaster to air “Sunday Night Football.”  Jessi Losada will be hosting the games and René Giraldo and Edgar López will call the play-by-play action in Spanish.

Telemundo also announced that in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, it will air an NFL Hispanic Heritage special on Sunday, September 25 at 7:30pm ET, followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts game from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Both events will air on Telemundo in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco/San Jose, and Washington.

The second NFL game to air on Telemundo will be between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, on December 11 at 8:00pm ET.  The third match will be the San Diego Chargers vs. the Baltimore Ravens on December 18, at 8:00pm ET.

In addition to the simulcast with NBC Sports of three games, Telemundo viewers will see three nationally broadcasted specials, including a one-hour Super Bowl special which will air on Saturday, February 4.  All of the NFL specials will be re-broadcast on mun2.
