Rodriguez, Ybarra, Iglesias and Sahagún pick up Emmys

October 16, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

Janet Rodriguez

The 2011 Rocky Mountain Emmy awards ceremony was Saturday night and Janet Rodriguez, Edgar Ybarra, Erick Iglesias and Alfonso Sahagún were among the winners.

Reporter Janet Rodriguez, from Telemundo Phoenix, picked up an Emmy in the Video Journalist category for “Firefighter’s Death.”

Janet tells me “This one means a lot because this is the first time that they have a VJ category.  Because of the changes in the market, they felt the need to recognize us one man band…and I won it! I had another nomination with a story that I had a photog, editor and even a producer, 4 of us worked on that one and it didn’t win…go figure.”

Edgar Ybarra and Alfonso Sahagún

KOLD News 13 Photojournalist Edgar Ybarra won his Emmy in the Politics/Government category, news single story for “Border Patrol After Dark.”

KGUN 9 Photojournalist Alfonso Sahagún got a statue in the category Societal Concerns for “Pinal County Drugs.”

Erick Iglesias

News Reporter/Anchor Erick Iglesias from Univision Arizona won 3 Emmy Awards – in the Writer and Single news story/news feature category for “Juventud tras las rejas,” and Feature News Report-Serious Feature or Serious Series for “911: Salvando Vidas.”
