Univision to launch digital on-demand network; webnovelas

Univision really wants to make a mark online.  It has announced it will continue its cyberspace expansion by creating exclusive webnovelas and making them available on its UVideos Digital Network, set to launch this summer.  The digital network will give users access to thousands of hours of on-demand content.

Currently in Beta, UVideos will make all programs from Univision’s networks available on multiple devices including smartphones, tablets and Internet-enabled TVs.

Of the three webnovela projects, Univision has partnered with Televisa to produce one targeted at U.S. Hispanics later this fall.

Kate del Castillo, who is currently in talks with competitor Telemundo to star in the “Reina del Sur” sequel, will star in one of the webnovelas.  She will also make her directorial debut in the other projects.

Kate previously starred in “Vidas Cruzadas,” Univision’s first webnovela two years ago, which the network said generated over 2.5 million streams by February of 2010.  A second webnovela, “No me hallo,” ran in May of last year.
