Univision ad sales president resigns

August 16, 2012 by Veronica Villafañe

David LawendaDavid Lawenda, President of ad sales for Univision, has resigned. He’ll be leaving the company in September.  In an internal memo, Univision President and CEO Randy Falco told staffers this morning:

“David Lawenda informed me that he will be leaving the Company during the week of Labor Day. After five years at Univision, David decided a few months ago that it was time to look at the next phase of his career. Fortunately he agreed for the transition to happen after the Upfront to deliver results, give us time to plan for the transition and give a new leader time to complete the year and kick-off the next Upfront sales period. David will be sorely missed. As you know he has been a great asset to the Company and helped position Hispanic media to a level playing field with our English-language competitors and helped elevate the Univision brand.”

Adweek reports that although Univision got off to a great start in the May Upfronts getting the first big deal of the season from Burger King, Mars/Wrigley and Kellogg and raking in huge ratings, the Q2 earnings report released earlier this month “included some troubling advertising figures: ad revenue for the half was off by $26 million for the six months ending June 30.”
