Carcamo leaves OC Register, joins LA Times

September 28, 2012 by Veronica Villafañe

Cindy CarcamoAfter almost 10 years at The Orange County Register, Cindy Carcamo is leaving the paper.  Today is her last day.  Starting Monday, October 1, the award-winning writer starts a new job at the LA Times as a national correspondent, based in Phoenix.

“I will be in LA for about three months with the metro desk to do some reporting while getting to know the newsroom culture, editors and reporters,” Cindy tells me.  “The plan is that I will start in Arizona after the new year.”

For the past 4 years, Cindy has been the immigration reporter at the OC Register.  She recently concluded a special three part series on changing patterns of human smuggling and illegal immigration to California by sea.

Before the Register, Cindy worked for the Fresno Bee.
