Eduardo Cancela

Cancela named GM at Azteca América

January 10, 2013 by Veronica Villafañe

Eduardo “Eddie” Cancela returns to television management after 17 years.  He was named General Manager of Azteca América stations WSFL in Miami and WMBC in New York.  He started the new job on Jan. 2.  He’s based out of Azteca América’s Miami office.

“Very excited to be back in the game with a great company,” Eduardo tells me. “Azteca América is commited to the US Hispanic Market. Miami and New York will be a great project for us, we look forward to the challenge. I could not be happier at this moment porque estoy en mi CASA, Azteca América.”

Prior to joining Azteca América Eduardo held executive positions in sales and marketing mostly in radio.

He was most recently VP of Global Sales for Banah Sugar Group – a job he took after a 2 year hiatus when he sold his share of the media relations and marketing firm Buena Vida, which he held from 2003- 2009.

Before that, he spent 4 years as Executive Vice President of New Business Development for Spanish Broadcasting Systems in Los Angeles and was General Manager and General Sales Manager of KLAX 97.9 FM in L.A. from 1996 to 1999.

Eduardo was Local Sales Manager at Telemundo flagship station KVEA-52 in Los Angeles from 1993 -1996 and was previously Merchandizing Account Manager for Univision Channel 23.
