Silberwasser named President of Telemundo

Luis Silberwasser will be taking over the role of President of Telemundo Network, left vacant by Emilio Romano since his departure in October of last year. He starts in August.

He’ll report to Joe Uva, Chairman, Hispanic Enterprises and Content, NBCUniversal. He’ll be relocating from London, where he’s currently based, to live in Miami.

In his new role, Silberwasser will oversee the Telemundo broadcast network, including Telemundo Studios. He’ll also be responsible for developing and executing the network’s entertainment, sports and news growth strategy with a focus on increased market share and profitability.

Most recently, Silberwasser was Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer for Discovery Networks International (DNI), based in London. He was promoted to that role in 2010, where he was in charge of leading the overall content strategy for DNI’s portfolio of channels in the international markets, as well as overseeing the production and development unit that focuses on creating original global content for the international networks in more than 220 countries worldwide.

He was previously Senior Vice President, Content Group for Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic, where he managed programming, production and marketing for the region’s 15 channels. During his tenure, Silberwasser launched and served as General Manager for the company’s two channels geared for the U.S. Hispanic market – Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia.

Since he joined Discovery in 1998, he has held other leadership positions in marketing, sales and business development within the company’s international division, including SVP for Strategic Planning at Discovery Networks International, and VP of Affiliate Sales and Marketing for the Latin American division.
