Azteca América adds affiliates, sees ratings growth

Azteca America logoAzteca América continues its aggressive expansion growth. The network has signed affiliate agreements with Sinclair Broadcast Group and Lazer Broadcasting.

Under the terms of the deal, Sinclair’s KGBT-TV in Harlingen-Brownsville-McAllen,TX, and Lazer’s KSTV-32 in Sacramento, CA, will carry Azteca América’s programming.

With the two new additions the network expands to 65 stations, 27 of which are operated by Azteca América. Last week, the network picked up KDKJ in Tyler, TX.

The network has also been growing in ratings. According to Nielsen numbers provided by Azteca América, for the fifth consecutive month, the network has seen an increase in primetime among adults 18-49, up +65% year-over-year and reaching 2.7 million viewers in the demographic.

The network reached 4.9 million total viewers in April. “Al Extremo” was a key driver of primetime growth, delivering +96% growth year-over-year. Friday Night Fútbol also delivered strong year-over-year growth, delivering a +12% increase among adults 18-49 and an average audience of 217,000 viewers in the demo.

Azteca also saw double and triple digit year-over-year growth among adults 18-49 across many dayparts, including +50% in early morning, +16% in daytime, +150% in early fringe and 44% in late fringe. Growth was driven by returning series, which posted strong gains, including a +80% increase for “Hechos AM,” +23% growth for “Venga la Alegria,” +65% growth for “Cosas de la Vida,” and “Ventaneando gained +138%.
