Luis Jiménez leaves SBS to launch own channel

Luis Jiménez is off the air… again. The popular DJ, who landed a radio show at SBS’ 93.1 FM in New York in February of this year, has “parted ways” with the station to work on his own venture.

The host of “Sin Censura con Luis Jiménez” is taking a more entrepreneurial approach. He’s planning to launch his own online radio show in September. Fans will reportedly have to pay a $5 access fee to listen in.

In a tweet sent out today, Luis promises this time he’ll be “totally uncensored.”

Having his own online radio show would give Luis more control. The question is… will he get his listeners to follow him there and pay to hear his show?

Prior to rejoining SBS, Luis had been without a radio home for 7 months, after Univision abruptly cancelled his 6 year-old morning show.

Before that, he spent 14 years at SBS’ La Mega 97.9 in New York, which aired his hit show “El Vacilón de la Mañana.”
