Gonzales replaces Rivera as KBAK anchor

Dave Gonzales (L) and Kurt Rivera.

Longtime Los Angeles anchor Dave Gonzales, who left KCAL in 2012 after 17 years, will be returning to an anchor desk – in Bakersfield. He’ll anchor the 5, 6, 10 and 11 pm news starting tomorrow.

Gonzales will fill in as main anchor for CBS affiliate KBAK until the station finds a permanent replacement for Kurt Rivera, who lost his job after getting arrested on domestic violence charges.

The District Attorney decided not to prosecute Rivera and dropped the charges, because it couldn’t be determined who was the primary aggressor in the incident.

Rivera had been at KBAK for 28 years. He joined the station as a reporter in 1987.

Word is that if things work out, Gonzales could be offered a permanent role as KBAK’s main anchor.
