Univision launches JV with Patricio Wills

Univision CEO Randy Falco and former Telemundo Studios President Patricio Wills shake hands on a JV programming content deal.

Univision Communications and former Telemundo Studios President Patricio Wills have teamed up to launch a joint venture that will develop and produce exclusive content for UniMás.

The focus of the Miami-based company will be “edgy, action-packed series” created specifically for U.S. Hispanic audiences. Its first project is expected to air in October.

Univision president and CEO Randy Falco signed the deal with Wills as a way to “continue to grow UniMás as one of the leading Spanish-language broadcast networks.”

Prior to launching the JV with Univision, Wills was CEO of Producciones RTI, Telemundo’s joint venture in Colombia. Wills was also creator and President of Telemundo Studios, a post he left after a 5-year run in 2011.

He has been responsible for hits such as “La Reina del Sur,” Telemundo’s hugely successful 10 pm telenovela in 2011 and “La Viuda Negra,” which aired on Unimás in 2014.

Wills is also the executive producer of “La Viuda Negra II,” which premiered on Sunday, February 28th at 10 pm ET/PT, simulcast on Univision, UniMás and Galavisión, as well as on Univision Digital platforms.
