Herrera to leave KGET to launch business venture

April 6, 2016 by Veronica Villafañe

Andres HerreraAnchor Andrés Herrera has decided not to renew his contract with KGET Telemundo Bakersfield. He’ll be leaving the station on June 1 to start his own company.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, but a great experience,” he says of the past 5 years at the station. “When I started at Telemundo Bakersfield, there was only one newscast. Now, we’ve grown to 3 shows. I’m proud of what we have accomplished. But for the past year, I’ve been thinking it’s time to venture out on my own. I know it’s difficult to leave a steady income and benefits, but I told myself it’s now or never,” he tells Media Moves.

Telemundo Bakersfield currently has 5:30, 6 and 11 pm newscasts.

His wife and co-anchor Candy Cáceres, who renewed her contract in February, will remain at the station for another 3 years.

Prior to KGET, Andrés worked as a reporter and anchor for KRCA 62 Estrella TV, KVEA Telemundo 52 and Azteca 54 in Los Angeles.
