IBT layoffs hit Rodríguez, staffers from Latin Times

April 6, 2016 by Veronica Villafañe

Salvador Rodriguez IBTTech reporter Sal Rodríguez is among more than dozen employees who lost their jobs in a round of layoffs at the International Business Times.

Sal had been working at the IBT Media-owned digital publication since December of 2014. He previously worked as a tech writer for the LA Times.

According to a Re/code report, four staffers were also laid off at IBT Media’s Latin Times, essentially eliminating half of the editorial team at that digital pub.

The company didn’t respond to request for comment, but sources have confirmed the layoffs were unexpected and quick, with staffers given just minutes to pack and leave, just as reported by Re/code.

While the company wouldn’t address who lost their jobs at Latin Times, on the website’s staff page several names disappeared from the staff list after the cuts, including Michael J. Duarte, Sports Editor; Cedar Attanasio, immigration/hard news reporter, Danny Choy, Tech Editor; and Lilia Cisneros, Español.
