El Rey Network has hired award-winning media executive Daniel Tibbets as its new President and General Manager. He’ll be reporting to Robert Rodriguez, the network’s founder and Chairman.

Tibetts arrives to the newly created position from Machinima, where he was the Chief Content Officer.

Rodriguez and Vice Chairman Scott Sassa previously led the network, which was launched in 2013. Sassa left at the end of last year.

The network’s headquarters are in Austin, but Tibbets will be based in Los Angeles, where he’ll oversee the channel’s day to day operations. He’ll be working closely with Rodriguez and El Rey Network’s executive team to grow El Rey’s brand, focusing on digital expansion, content strategy and development, program planning and scheduling, production, acquisitions, talent relations, ad sales, business affairs and business development.

While at Machinima, Tibbets was responsible for the programming organization, including content strategy and development, program planning and scheduling, production, acquisitions, and business affairs.

Prior to Machinima, he was SVP Digital Media for Bunim/Murray Productions and led Bunim/Murray’s digital department including developing short-form programming for the web, mobile devices and other online and connected device distribution platforms. He was previously, GoTV Networks’ Studio Chief. Before that, he was VP of Production at Twentieth Television, where he oversaw FOXLAB, Inc. and Fireworks Television, where he developed live-action dramas for syndication with Tribune Entertainment and children’s series for Nickelodeon and NBC/Discovery Kids.
