Neida Sandoval out at Telemundo

Neida Sandoval posted this photo on her official Facebook account prior to the start of the morning show, asking viewers to tune in.

Today was Neida Sandoval’s last day on the air at Telemundo.

According to sources, the network decided not to renew her contract as the news anchor for morning show “Un Nuevo Día.”

Sources say the move came as a surprise many staffers, including Neida, who did not get a chance to say good-bye on the air.

A company spokesman confirmed the news: “Neida Sandoval is no longer working with us. We appreciate her numerous contributions to Telemundo and wish her all the best in her future professional endeavors.”

Neida’s departure comes just shy of two years since she joined the show in June of 2014. At the time, she replaced Edgardo Del Villar, who was moved to a role as correspondent and fill-in anchor for the network’s primetime newscast.

An Emmy-award winning journalist, Neida was one of the founding members of Univision’s “Despierta América,” which she co-hosted for 15 years until 2011.

Edgardo, who in March was pulled off the weekend anchor desk in favor of Luis Carlos Vélez, returns to the morning news slot next Monday, May 9. It remains to be seen if he’ll be Neida’s permanent replacement.

* The story was updated to include that Edgardo del Villar will fill-in for Neida Sandoval.
