Díaz-Balart named permanent Saturday Nightly News anchor; gives up MSNBC show

Jose Diaz Balart

Starting August 6, José Díaz-Balart will be the new full-time Saturday anchor of NBC’s Nightly News. He had been part of a rotating cast of anchors filling the spot since November of 2015.

NBC today announced it was making his Saturday night role permanent.

José will continue to anchor “Noticiero Telemundo” on weeknights, in addition to his Sunday morning show “Enfoque con José Díaz-Balart.”

In making this move, José will give up his MSNBC show “The Rundown,” which airs weekday mornings at 10 am ET.

However, in a written statement about his departure from the show, MSNBC president Phil Griffin said José will continue to “contribute regularly to special reports and major events for both NBC News and MSNBC – starting with the Republican and Democratic national conventions where he will anchor on-the-ground live coverage.”

José is the only journalist currently anchoring network newscasts in English and Spanish.
