Univision launches digital newscast

Univision continues its push for a stronger digital presence with the launch of the first network newscast conceived, designed and produced for live simulcast on digital/social platforms and broadcast television.

“Noticiero Univision Edición Digital,” which will also be the only noon network newscast in the United States, debuts Monday, September 12.

Carolina Sarassa and Javier Olivares will anchor the new digital newscast that will be broadcast live on the Univision Network and streamed live on Univision.com, Facebook Live, YouTube, and Periscope, Monday-Friday at 12:00 pm ET/PT (11:00 am CT).

The newscast won’t be live on the West Coast, which will air the the 3-hour old show at 12 pm PT.

Univision describes “Edición Digital” as a “bold, out-of-the-box format,” in which Carolina and Javier will present the day’s most relevant stories from the floor of the Univision newsroom “while staying connected with viewers via social media throughout the broadcast.”

The half-hour show will also take viewers behind the scenes to see how the news reporting process works. It will actively engage its audience through the new #reporterodigital, which will enable users to become part of the news team by reporting breaking stories.

Javier, a radio and TV host in Chile, joined Univision in August for the launch of the digital newscast.

Carolina has been with Univision since February. In addition to her new anchor role, she will continue to be a correspondent for “Aquí y Ahora.”
