Hugo Balta

Balta named Sr Director, Hispanic Initiatives at ESPN Deportes

December 20, 2016 by Veronica Villafañe

Hugo Balta has a new title at ESPN. He’s now Senior Director of Hispanic Initiatives at ESPN Deportes, reporting to VP and GM Freddy Rolón.

In his new role, he’ll help lead the transformation of ESPN Deportes from a Spanish-language network into a network that produces content in Spanish and English as part of the company’s total market approach in serving US Hispanic sports fans.

He’ll oversee creation of video and multimedia content targeting the US Hispanic audience across all ESPN and ESPN Deportes platforms, and identify and develop opportunities for ESPN Deportes Radio and ESPNDeportes.com talent to expand their roles across platforms in both English and Spanish.

Balta, named Senior Director of Multicultural Content for ESPN’s Digital & Print Media team two years ago, joined the company as a Coordinating Producer for ESPN’S SportsCenter since 2011.

A past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), he previously worked as Managing Editor at WCBS in New York and VP of news for Telemundo’s WNJU.
