FCC approves Televisa ownership increase of Univision

For years, foreign ownership limits have blocked Televisa from increasing its stake in Univision.

But on Tuesday, the FCC ruled that it’s ok for Televisa to own up to 49% of Univision, claiming that the foreign investment will help bring more sources of capital to the U.S. Spanish-language network and further its “service to the Hispanic community and other minority communities and advance its empowerment initiatives.”

This ruling comes six years after Televisa made a $1.2 billion investment in Univision.
