Telemundo San Diego announces news team; López and Venegas named anchors

Guadalupe Venegas and Lizzet Lopez are the main anchors for Noticiero Telemundo 20.

Telemundo 20 San Diego has wrapped up hiring of its first on-air news team and is ready to launch on July 1, 2017.

Lizzet López and Guadalupe Venegas have been named news anchors for the new station’s first newscast, which debuts on Monday July 3.

They’ll be joined by weather anchor Ana Cristina Sánchez, sports anchor MJ Acosta, who will also anchor sports for NBC7, and multimedia journalists Leticia Estrada, Lissette Martínez, Anlleyn Venegas and Rigo Villalobos.

Telemundo 20 San Diego will air four half-hour weekday newscasts, Noticiero Telemundo 20 at 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 pm PT.

López arrives to San Diego from Univision 45 Houston, where she was an anchor/reporter for the past six years. She previously worked as a freelance host and reporter for several stations in Los Angeles.

Venegas joins Telemundo 20 after working for nearly a decade at Telemundo Network in various on-air capacities including host, reporter and anchor for national entertainment, sports and news programs including Al Rojo Vivo.

Sánchez most recently worked as an Associate Editor for Google Play Newsstand and a freelance weather anchor for the NBC affiliate in Portland, ME. She was previously a weather anchor for The Weather Company in Boston.

Acosta is currently an NBC 7 sports anchor and reporter and will continue in that role, adding Spanish-language sports anchoring duties at Telemundo . She was previously a reporter at WPLG in Miami.

Prior to her move to San Diego, Estrada spent three years as a reporter for Estrella TV in Los Angeles.

A freelance reporter in San Diego for the past three years, Martínez previously worked as a reporter at NBC and as an anchor/reporter for Univision in Phoenix.

Anlleyn Venegas joins the team from Los Angeles where until recently, she worked at KVEA Telemundo 52.

Villalobos moves back to California from KVDA Telemundo 60 San Antonio, where he had been an MMJ since 2015. He was previously a reporter at KINC Univision Las Vegas.
