Cox Media Group, which owns and operates ABC affiliate WSOC channel 9, launched Telemundo Charlotte today at 6 a.m. ET. – the first full-power high definition Spanish-language local broadcast station in the Charlotte DMA.
Telemundo Charlotte will air on WSOC-TV’s subchannel 9.2.
The new station currently doesn’t have a local newscast, but there are plans to develop one in the future.
According to census data, Charlotte is the fastest growing Hispanic DMA in the Carolinas and the third fastest growing Hispanic DMA in the Southeast, which has seen its Hispanic population increase by 177% since 2000.
Cox has been promoting the launch on its ABC affiliate, highlighting Telemundo’s upcoming FIFA ConfederationsCup and 2018 World Cup.
