Martínez to retire from Discovery; Medin to replace him

October 11, 2017 by Veronica Villafañe

Enrique Martinez - Fernando Medin - DLA
DLA President Enrique Martinez (L) will be replaced by Fernando Medin.

Enrique R. Martínez, President and Managing Director of Discovery Latin America/US Hispanic (DLA/USH) for the past 17 years, announced he will retire at the end of 2017.

He’ll be replaced by Fernando Medin, currently the EVP and General Manager for Brazil and the Southern Cone, who has been promoted to lead the company’s DLA/USH division, effective January 1, 2018.

Martínez will stay on in an advisory role for Discovery Networks International, reporting to JB Perrette, President and CEO of DNI.

Since joining Discovery Communications in 1994, Martínez has led the creation of a diverse portfolio of networks in Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula and the U.S. Hispanic market. He is credited with launching Discovery Kids and Discovery Home & Health, and helped develop and launch Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia in the U.S. Hispanic market.

Medin came on board Discovery Communications in 2002 as VP of DLA/USH’s legal department serving as an advisor in the company’s distribution negotiations and management of regulatory and legal issues in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. He also played a key role in launching the company’s subsidiaries in Spain, Mexico and Brazil.

In 2007 Medin was tapped to lead the expansion of DLA/USH’s regional office in Brazil and relocated to São Paulo as EVP and General Manager. He later added the Southern Cone market – which includes Argentina and Chile – to his responsibilities.

Before DLA/USH, Medin was VP of Business Affairs at PSN (Pan American Sports Network) in Miami.
