Univision strikes deal with Verizon ending blackout on FiOS

It took a month, but Univision’s blackout on Verizon FiOS has come to an end, after both companies have reached an agreement to flip the switch back on, once again giving customers on that service access to all the company’s networks.

Univision would not expand on the terms of the deal with Verizon.

A carriage dispute led to the blackout of all of Univision broadcast and cable networks on FiOS, starting 5 pm EST on October 16, 2017.

Univision lobbied heavily to get the service restored on Verizon, even securing a letter from a group of democratic senators urging both companies to “settle their retransmission consent dispute,” and calling on the FCC “to take action to bring the parties together so these negotiations” can be concluded quickly and fairly.

Univision accused Verizon of pulling its signal from its cable service “entirely without warning,” while Verizon blamed Univision for seeking an “excessive price increase” and rejecting counter offer, and in doing so, canceled the service provider’s rights to air any of Univision’s networks.
