EstrellaTV ousts Ospina, Villazón, Peñate

Ospina-Villazon-Penate

L to R: Andrea Ospina, Osvaldo Villazón and Walter Peñate.

EstrellaTV management has cut three of its news managers.

VP of Local News Andrea Ospina, executive producer Osvaldo Villazón and news producer Walter Peñate are no longer with the company.

Ospina was hired in 2016, as the company navigated accusations of sexual harassment by two of the company’s news anchors against then VP of News Andrés Angulo.

Villazón, who worked at EstrellaTV Los Angeles station KRCA-62 since 2011, previously spent 25 years at Univision’s KMEX-34 and KDTV-14.

Peñate joined EstrellaTV in February 2015. He was previously news director and anchor at Telemundo Utah.

EstrellaTV parent company is currently operating under bankruptcy protection. A company spokesperson would not address the reason behind the departures.

According to sources, Guillermo Ahumada and Roberto Ticona will be overseeing news production of local newscasts.
