Telemundo adds late night newscast dedicated to COVID-19 coverage; extends other news shows

March 17, 2020 by Veronica Villafañe

Noticias Telemundo today announced the same-day launch of a late night weekday newscast dedicated to coverage of COVID-19.

“Noticias Telemundo Presenta – Coronavirus: un país en alerta” premieres tonight at March 17, at 11:35p ET/10:35p CT.

Julio Vaqueiro will anchors the newscast, which will focus on the latest developments regarding the coronavirus and its impact on the Latino community as the country remains on alert during this national emergency.

Vaqueiro previously anchored “Noticias Telemundo Fin de Semana,” which airs Saturdays and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. CDT.

Telemundo Deportes’ “Titulares y Más,” hosted by Ana Jurka and Karim Mendiburu, will now air in its new time slot at midnight during the week, while “Zona Mixta,” the weekend edition, will continue on its regular scheduled slot at 11 pm ET, or following local news. TYM and Zona Mixta will also be available via the Telemundo and Telemundo Deportes apps.

The launch of a late night newscast was moved up due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was previously slated to start mid-year to focus on election coverage.

Telemundo is also adding several hours to several of its current daytime shows to extend COVID-19 news coverage:

  • 7a – 11a ET: Un Nuevo Día morning show extended to four hours
  • 12:30p – 1:30p ET: Noticias Telemundo Mediodía extended to one hour
  • 3p – 5p ET: Al Rojo Vivo extended to two hours
  • 24/7 digital coverage on telemundo.com/noticias/salud with extensive video and instant updates on reported cases and analysis from medical, business and financial experts, as well as coverage from the network’s top international reporters and correspondents dispatched throughout the world.
