Multimedia Journalist Miriam Arias is the host of Telemundo’s English-language version of its social first political-based informational series “Politi¿QUÉ?” on Snapchat.

Telemundo launched the new initiative today, as part of the network’s efforts to reach a younger audience and provide resources to encourage voter turnout in this year’s election.

According to the company, the short-format digital series “explains the political process in simple terms” and is part of Decision 2020, its non-partisan multiplatform news and civic engagement initiative to provide Latinos with comprehensive news, information and resources to engage in this year’s presidential election cycle.

“Politi¿QUÉ?” will cover a wide range of topics including explainers on the Electoral college vs. Popular vote, why we vote on a Tuesday, as well as polls on trending topics.

New episodes will air every Thursday through October 29 and will integrate Snapchat’s civic tools to help users register to vote.

As background to this initiative, Telemundo shared the following data: “Snapchat reaches 90% of all 13-24 year-olds in the U.S. – more than Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger combined – and 75% of all 13-34 year-olds, and more people in the U.S. than Twitter and TikTok combined. Of the 100 million Snapchat users in the U.S., 80% are of voting age, 18 or older, and 300-500,000 Snapchatters turn 18 each month. More than half of the U.S. Gen Z population is watching news content on Discover.”
