Univision - El Rey

Univision ends partnership with El Rey Network

November 9, 2020 by Veronica Villafañe

Univision has exited its minority position in El Rey, Robert Rodriguez’s English-language entertainment cable network, after a 7-year partnership.

The Rodriguez – Univision partnership was announced during May 2013 upfronts.

At the time, then Univision network president César Conde (currently Chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group), sought to increase its reach among Hispanic bilingual millennials, by expanding programming with a second English-language network, along with their unsuccessful cable net Fusion, which launched in October 2013.

The move makes El Rey 100% independently owned. You can read more details about the split, Univision’s Q3 results and more, on Forbes.
