Univision announces launch of 24-hour live news service, Brand Studio at Upfronts

Univision will launch anew 24-hour live news service and a Brand Studio to help brands in developing campaigns to reach Hispanic consumers.

Both initiatives were among the announcements Luis Silberwasser, president of Univision Television Networks Group and Donna Speciale, President of Advertising Sales and Marketing, made during Univision’s 2021-2022 virtual Upfront presentation.

The news service would be available on Univision’s recently launched free streaming service PrendeTV and will offer live news and breaking stories “in digital-friendly formats and snackable storytelling content,” while the the Brand Studio will “combine the best in original brand journalism with industry-leading insights to deliver powerful storytelling across theUnivision portfolio and social media.”

Silberwasser emphasized that Univision’s programming strategy will focus on “live and big” and promoted the expansion of Despierta América starting this Fall, as well as two new tentpole events in 2022: UniVisionarios and TUDN Mega-Fest, which he talked about in an interview ahead of the presentation.

Here’s Univision’s 2021-2022 content slate:

Live programming 

TUDN Mega-Fest – Combines fútbol and a big music concert tied to Liga MX´s “Campeón de Campeones.”
UniVisionarios – Year-long events that celebrate Hispanic visionaries who have made impactful contributions to our community in the United States and worldwide, culminating in a televised gala during Hispanic Heritage Month in 2022.
Nuestra Belleza Latina – Univision’s longest-running reality competition returns for season 12.
Domingos en Familia –  The family-friendly block will feature the return of hit reality competition shows Pequeños Gigantes, Mira Quién Baila, Tu CaraMe Suena and ¿Quién es LaMáscara?
UniMás’ Weekday Entertainment – Dating show Enamorándonos returns for another season, as well as reality competitions Inseparables, Amor al Límite and Guerreros 2021.
Desafío The Box – Colombian reality competition on Unimás Primetime.

Series

Vencer el Pasado – Third installment of the anthology series, following Vencer el Miedo and Vencer el Desamor, featuring Angelique Boyer, Sebastian Rulli, and Erika Buenfil.
La Desalmada – Romantic melodrama starring José Ron and LiviaBrito. this will bring love, passion, and unexpected plottwists to Univision’s primetime.
Los Ricos También Lloran – Remake of the late 1970’s hit Mexican telenovela, part of “TheCollection,” shorter versions of classic novelas.
S.O.S. Me Estoy Enamorando – Family-friendly inspirational drama, featuring Daniel Arenas and Iran Castillo. Soltero con Hijas – Romantic dramedy.
Vecinos – Comedy franchise returns later this year for a 10th and 11th season.
Dr. Cándido Pérez –  A remake of the 1990’s sitcom of the same name, starring Arath de la Torre and Irán Castillo.
Génesis – “Sword and sandals” Brazilian drama that tells the story of the first book of the Bible (From Record TV).
