NPR promotes Isabel Lara to Chief Communications Officer

July 30, 2021 by Veronica Villafañe

NPR has promoted Isabel Lara to the newly created position of Chief Communications Officer.

In this senior executive role, Lara will have strategic oversight of National Public Radio’s communications with all audiences, ensuring a unified voice and strong representation of the NPR brand across all channels.

Lara, who was most recently executive director for media relations, has been NPR’s spokesperson since 2014.

Prior to NPR, Lara worked as associate director for media strategy for the National Education Association and media relations manager for the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Latino Center.

She was previously web manager and editor and content producer for Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation’s radio properties (now Univision Radio) in New York. Before that, she was chief of public relations at El Universal newspaper in Caracas.
