Trey Serna and Sandra Rodriguez

Trey Serna and Sandra Rodríguez debut as KGRV’s new morning anchor team

July 26, 2021 by Veronica Villafañe

Trey Serna and Sandra Rodríguez make their debut as the new KGRV Channel 5 News this Morning anchor team.

The duo will be anchoring weekdays from 4:30 to 7 am Monday-Friday and also reporting for the Rio Grande Valley station’s noon newscast.

They replace Michael Scott and Gabriela Garza.

Serna got a head start, anchoring solo beginning July 19. Today marks the on-air arrival of Rodríguez as his co-anchor.

Prior to joining KRGV, Serna was co-anchor and senior producer at KIAH-TV, the CW affiliate in Houston. Serna previously worked at KRGV as a producer earlier in his career, from 2008 to 2010.

Rodríguez was most recently an MMJ at Fox 4 in Cape Coral. Before that, she worked as a bilingual content producer for Al Día News in Philadelphia and as an MMJ and anchor at News-Press & Gazette’s NBC, CBS and Telemundo affiliates in Yuma.
