The Independent en Español taps María Luisa Arredondo as assistant editor

María Luisa Arredondo has joined The Independent as assistant editor for the British online publication’s Spanish-language news site.

In her new role, she helps in all aspects of editorial coverage and writes a political column and articles on Latino issues. She also assists in the training and recruiting of reporters and freelance content producers writing original content producing for the Independent en Español, which launched at the end of 2020.

For the past 10 years, Arredondo was editor of El Pasajero, the Spanish blog of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

She previously spent two decades as a staff reporter and editor for El Diario La Prensa and La Opinión newspapers and continues to be a contributing political columnist for the publications.

Arredondo is also the and CEO of the website Latinocalifornia.com, which she founded in 2010.
