Edgar Carrillo lands anchor job at WVEA

February 17, 2022 by Veronica Villafañe

Edgar Carrillo has started a new job as anchor at WVEA’s Noticias Univision Tampa Bay.

He’ll be anchoring, writing and co-producing the station’s weekday newscasts at 6 and 11 pm.

Carrillo was most recently weekend weather anchor at WTMO Telemundo 31, starting out at the station as a multimedia journalist in 2019.

He previously spent three years at ESPN’s Coral Gables studios, collaborating with the ESPN Datos Platform in production and on-camera roles, on shows like Jorge Ramos y Su Banda, Raza Deportiva, Liga MX, Copa del Rey and Sorteo Rusia 2018.

Before that, Carrillo did brief stints as a morning anchor and reporter for WVEN Univision Orlando and as a sports anchor for the now defunct MundoMax in Florida.

Carrillo, who has a journalism and law degree, started his broadcast career in his native Venezuela in 2007, as a producer and host for local TV talk shows and sports shows in Maracaibo.
