Telemundo Network names Loizaga evening anchor, Smyth to replace her on morning show

Aranxta Loizaga and Rebeka Smyth

Telemundo has named Emmy-award winning journalist Aranxta Loizaga anchor of its late night network weekday newscast, which airs at 11:35 PM ET/10:35 CT. With her move to nights, Rebeka Smyth was tapped to replace her on the network’s morning show hoyDía.

Loizaga, who will be a solo anchor, steps into the position left vacant in September 2021, when Julio Vaqueiro was named principal anchor and reassigned to the 6:30 pm ET/5:30 CT edition of “Noticias Telemundo,” following José Díaz Balart’s move to MSNBC.

After Vaqueiro’s late-night newscast departure, the network has been using rotating anchors for the evening news program.

Loizaga joined Noticias Telemundo’s hoyDía last year from Univision, where she spent over 13 years.

Since her arrival to the network in 2016, Smyth (who previously went by last name Díaz), has worked as NY correspondent, anchored the 11:30 pm newscast, co-hosted Al Rojo Vivo and most recently led the “Sin Filtro” segment featuring in-depth interviews with newsmakers and personalities. An Emmy awarding-winning journalist, She previously worked as an anchor at Telemundo Arizona.
