Gerardo Lopez named VP and news director at CBS Boston stations

July 20, 2022 by Veronica Villafañe

Award-winning journalist Gerardo Lopez has been named VP and news director at CBS News stations and local properties in Boston, including WBZ-TV (CBS), WSBK-TV (MyNetworkTV), CBS News Boston streaming channel and CBSBoston.com.

He’ll assume his new role on August 15.

Lopez moves to the Boston CBS O&O from E.W. Scripps-owned WTKR News 3 in Norfolk, Va, where he was news director since September 2021.

He was previously news director at KJRH-TV in Tulsa, Okla and assistant news director at KMGH-TV, the ABC affiliate in Denver.

As he worked his way up the ranks, Lopez has criss-crossed the country. His past experience includes roles as managing editor at KXAS NBC5 Dallas, content manager at KOMO ABC4 in Seattle, managing editor at Houston’s KPRC and multiple assignment editor roles in Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio stations.

He began his news career as an assignment editor at KEYE-TV in his hometown of Austin, Texas in 1997.
