Sara Cardona heads to WTVJ as sports anchor

Sara Cardona has been named WTVJ NBC 6’s main sports anchor and reporter.

The bilingual journalist will also contribute to sports coverage on WSCV Telemundo 51.

She starts her new role on June 5.

Cardona arrives to the Miami station from WTVQ ABC 36, where she was a sports anchor and reporter.

She worked at the Lexington, KY station since 2021, covering local and national sports. Most recently, she delivered sports news and storylines for the ABC 36’s live morning and early afternoon newscasts, including Good Day Kentucky.

Cardona previously spent two years as a sports anchor and reporter at WGFL CBS4 in Gainesville, Fla., where she covered University of Florida sports and led a weekly Southeastern Conference (SEC) football program.

Before that, she was a sideline reporter covering Conference USA football and basketball games on ESPN3 and ESPN Plus for more than two years.

Cardona was born in Medellín, Colombia, and raised in Nashville.
