José Cancela elevated to Telemundo Stations President; Migdalia Figueroa to lead WKAQ

Jose Cancela - Migdalia Figueroa

José Cancela has been named President of Telemundo Station Group, effective immediately.

He replaces Manuel Martínez, who retired in March 2023. The position had since been vacant.

Cancela will report to Valari Staab, Chairman of NBCUniversal Local, and work closely with Luis Fernández, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

This will be Cancela’s second time at the helm of the Telemundo Station Group. He was previously president & COO from 1992 to 1998.

In stepping into his new role, Cancela leaves WKAQ Telemundo Puerto Rico, where he had been president and general manager for almost 12 years.

His departure paves the way for Migdalia Figueroa to take over leadership of the Puerto Rico station.

Effective immediately, Figueroa, a native of Puerto Rico, is WKAQ’s new president and general manager. She’ll report to Cancela.

Figueroa leaves WTMO Telemundo 31 Orlando, where she has led the station as president and GM since 2020.

She previously spent eight years as VP of News at WTVJ, the NBC O&O in Miami.
