Programming changes at Univision

March 29, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

For the past 2 weeks Univision pulled all of its 10 pm programming, extending its 9 pm novela “Triunfo del Amor” to 2 hours. Despite numerous requests to find out why, network officials won’t give any explanations.

It’s interesting to note that the switch happened shortly after Telemundo’s novela “Reina del Sur” premiered to stellar ratings, at times, even beating the #1 Spanish-language network at 10 pm.

Starting tomorrow at 9 pm, Univision will start airing the new novela “Teresa,” a remake of the 1989 soap that made Salma Hayek a star in Mexico and put her on a path to a successful Hollywood career. So what happens to “Triunfo del Amor,” which had been airing at that time slot? It’s moving to 10 pm, Mon-Fri. – at least for this week, according to what’s showing on the TV guide. But it’s uncertain whether this is a definitive change.

The move displaces the previous 10 pm shows, including Monday’s “Don Francisco Presenta” and Tuesday’s “Aquí y Ahora.” Univision won’t comment on what will happen to Don Francisco’s talk show, but the news magazine will now air Sundays at 7 pm, starting April 3. The Univision website says it returns as a “revamped” and “lighter” show, with “more stories and more social media participation.”
