Sánchez leaves EFE to launch new venture

October 14, 2011 by Veronica Villafañe

After a 20-year career with EFE, most recently as U.S. Hispanic Managing Editor, Emilio Sánchez has taken a leave of absence from the news agency to launch his own company.

VOXXI is a multimedia platform “that will provide quality insight and opinion on news relevant to the multicultural and bilingual Hispanic market,” covering “politics, immigration, entertainment and much more with a different perspective and touch.”

As CEO, Emilio will be responsible for the overall strategy, direction and business leadership of the company, including corporate operations, business and product development, and strategic partnerships. He is also on the Board of Directors. The rest of his team is comprised of Ivonne Malaver, Managing Editor. Alison Montalvo, Director of Sales & Marketing and Julissa Bonfante, Director of Business Development.

Emilio says that given the growth of the Hispanic community in the U.S., now at more than 50 million, this was the right time to launch this project. “With the upcoming 2012 elections, immigration issues, and the key influence of the Latin culture across the nation, we will provide information and analysis on domestic and international affairs of relevance to the Hispanic communities. VOXXI’s digital platform will foster an open and dynamic dialogue, empowering our community to act and react on current events and trends.”

Emilio promises VOXXI will deliver high quality original content geared to building an online media platform “for the most affluent and burgeoning internet population in the U.S: the bilingual Latino community.”

The launch date is set for November 1, 2011.

I wish Mr. Sanchez a great deal of success with his new venture. The U.S. Hispanic community needs a strong voice especially since the Hispanic community is rapidly growing.
