María Elvira canceled

María Elvira Salazar

The sudden MundoFox affiliate switch to WGEN in Miami has left María Elvira Salazar out of a job.  The station’s management wouldn’t comment at first on what would happen to the newly launched programming in October, which included “María Elvira,” an informative one-hour program from 8-9 pm ET.

The uncertainty is over.  According to the Miami Herald, Luis Calle, VP of Operations of news and sports for Caracol Televisión, which owns the station, confirmed María Elvira is no longer with the station. Her contract has been terminated.

In fact, GenTV cancelled all the original programming it premiered 3 months ago during its re-launch.  Only the local newscast survived.

The Herald reports that GenTV continues to produce “The Tony Benítez Show,” which debuted Dec. 3, 2012, just 3 weeks before the switch to MundoFox, but plans to sell it elsewhere.

María Elvira may be popping up elsewhere soon.  She was seen attending a launch party for CNN Latino in Los Angeles this week.
