Fusion launch delayed

April 29, 2013 by Veronica Villafañe

Univision-ABC2013Fusion, the ABC/Univision joint venture won’t be getting its start at the end of the summer, after all.

In a recent interview, Univision CEO César Conde had affirmed the new network would be up and running by the end of the summer.

Now, sources say that Fusion won’t be launched until December.

When asked about the delay, a spokesperson insisted “we’ve always said second half of this year,” and pointed to a February press release announcing the name of Fusion for the JV, which includes this line:  “The ground-breaking media service launches in the second half of 2013.”

Someone familiar with the situation points out: “an August, September or October launch is tough because every network is rolling out their line ups for the new TV season, launching a lot of new shows.  November is sweeps.  So a December launch could make better strategic sense.”

The new network doesn’t yet have  logo or a CEO and staffing has been slow.

The most recent hire has been Maritza Puello, who joins Fusion as Managing Editor of Newscore.
