Nieto Molina leaves Prisa to lead Univision Radio

Alejandro Nieto Molina has left his position as Director of Business Development and Digital Transformation at Prisa Radio to take over the reins of Univision Radio.

He joins the company as SVP and General Manager, Radio, overseeing Univision’s 67 radio stations. It’s a newly created position, in which Nieto Molina will be responsible for strategy, content and operating leadership of Univision Radio.

Nieto, who was based in Spain, will be moving to Miami, where he’ll be based. He’ll report to John W. Eck, Chief Local Media officer and EVP of Technology, Operations and Engineering.

According to an inside source, he’ll start in early February.

Nieto arrives to Univision Radio a year after the network cancelled most of its shows, did massive layoffs, flipped the AM station format from talk radio to music and underwent a series of internal reorganizations.

The management changes pushed José Valle out as President of Univision’s radio division to become President of Political & Advocacy Sales, and would later oust Jaime Jiménez, who was overseeing radio as EVP of Local Media, from the company.

Nieto has extensive experience in radio, dating back to 1993, when he created and led La Mega, a pop and rock format for RCN Radio in his native Colombia.

Throughout his career, he has held multiple roles in radio, including news anchor, host and Director of Programming for Radio Caracol; VP of Programming for GLR Networks and VP of Programming & Talk Radio of PRISA Radio in the U.S., and Managing Director of Cadena SER in Spain.

Update 1/25: Univision issued a press release officially announcing the appointment today. Added to the story: Nieto’s official title and who he’ll be reporting to.
