Leal leaves KXTX, joins KVEA as morning anchor; Elvir moves to 5 pm

August 10, 2016 by Veronica Villafañe

Nancy Leal and Dunia Elvir
Nancy Leal takes over mornings from Dunia Elvir at KVEA 52.

Nancy Leal is leaving her weekend anchor job at KXTX Telemundo 39 Dallas at the end of August, after an 11-year run at that station.

She is moving to Los Angeles where she’ll co-anchor KVEA’s morning weekday newscasts at 5 and 6 am alongside Enrique Chiabra starting in mid-September.

Nancy steps into the role that will be left vacant with Dunia Elvir’s transfer to KVEA’s new 5 pm newscast, scheduled to debut on September 26.

Dunia will be paired with Julio Vaqueiro for the new 5 pm show as well as the 5:30 pm newscast. In addition to adding 5 pm to his anchoring duties, Julio will continue to anchor the 5:30, 6 and 11 pm weekday newscasts.

The switch gives Dunia a needed break from setting her alarm clock at 1 am. She had been anchoring mornings at KVEA for the past 13 years.

This will be the freest time in under a year that Dunia and Julio return to the anchor desk together. Dunia congrats on the promotion, but it is bittersweet for the morning people and the viewers. But however I don’t really like Nancy Leal please she should stay in Dallas. But this means more with her kids in the morning and weekends, she’ll still have evenings, because Ana Patricia Candiana has just dumped her 5:30pm anchor duties (but continues 6pm and 11pm) She also got full hour so that great.

Good try but no. Dunia has only been gettin up early since 2009 as you reported back in the day. That’s seven years at best and not 13. https://www.mediamoves.com/2009/11/telemundo-l-a-talent-update.html
