Just two weeks since the FCC approved an increase of Televisa’s ownership stake in Univision, both companies today announced they’re merging their content development and production efforts, benefiting from “potential cost synergies.”
As part of the restructuring, Isaac Lee, who currently serves as the Chief News, Entertainment & Digital Officer for Univision and CEO for Fusion, will assume the role of Chief Content Officer of both Univision and Televisa, effective immediately.
“With a unified leadership structure for Content, Univision and Televisa are best poised to effectively meet the needs of our evolving and sophisticated audiences who are increasingly consuming content across all platforms and in multiple languages – both in the U.S. and Mexico,” Univision CEO Randy Falco told employees in an email sent morning.
Lee will now report to both Falco and Emilio Azcárraga Jean, President of Televisa.
According to Univision, the news and all other operations of both companies will remain independent, and the current terms and conditions of the existing programming license agreement between Univision and Televisa remain unchanged.
Televisa also announced that José Bastón Patiño will assume the role of President of Televisa International, reporting directly to Azcárraga.
Bastón will be responsible for Televisa’s expansion beyond Mexico and the United States, and will remain a member of the board of directors of Televisa.
