Starting July 3, Entravision’s XHAS in San Diego will have newly branded weekday newscasts as an Azteca América affiliate.

Most of the current news team will continue to produce and anchor the station’s local news programming under the new banner “Noticias Ya Frontera” at 5 and 11 pm.

Martin Borchardt will headline the 5 pm one-hour newscast and Estephanía Baez and Aranzazú Alvarez will anchor at 11 pm.

Entravision lost its Telemundo affiliation in San Diego earlier this year and secured a deal with Azteca América shortly after, promising to continue producing news with its current staff.

The station’s last day as Telemundo 33 is Friday, June 30. The next day, Telemundo will flip the on switch to its brand new owned-and-operated Telemundo 20 San Diego.

Telemundo 20 will launch its first newscasts on July 3, going head to head with the new Azteca América 33 newscasts.
