Telemundo wins best newscasts; fired Estrella TV anchor Karla Amezola wins at LA Emmys

July 23, 2017 by Veronica Villafañe

Telemundo52 - Karla Emmys 2017
The Telemundo 52 team (L) and former KRCA 62 anchor celebrate their Emmy wins.

Telemundo’s KVEA 52 took home top honors at the 69th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, winning best morning and afternoon newscasts. The station received 8 Emmys – the second highest number of awards of the night, behind public television’s KCET, which picked up 10 – and ahead of NBC, ABC and CBS.

Univision’s KMEX 34 came in third, with 7 Emmys, but was not recognized in for any of its newscasts.

The ceremony, which took place at the Saban Media Center in North Hollywood last night, was bittersweet for one of the winners.

Anchor Karla Amezola, fired from KRCA 62 earlier this year after filing a sexual harassment lawsuit against News VP Andrés Angulo and Estrella TV, won an Emmy for her multi-part series “Atrapados en la Frontera.”
